A Hawaiian
Beginning
Beginning a Hawaiian quilt, requires some extra care
to make sure that appliqué and quilting will go smoothly. Most common problems can
be eliminated by spending extra time and care here. Learn how to prepare your fabric for
cutting, tips on cutting, and how to lay out the pattern smoothly. We will pin and
baste a quilt top, and discuss how to add multiple colors. If you already know how to
appliqué and quilt, this may be the class you need to get started on your own Hawaiian
quilt.

Basic Hawaiian Quilting
Learn the basics from beginning to end. We will
cover cutting, layout, appliqué, marking quilting lines, quilting, and binding.
Everyone will work on a practice piece or the pillow pattern of their choice, as well as
be able to trace all the pillow patterns they wish for personal use. A lot of
information will be shared in this class, if time allows we will also talk about using
Hawaiian designs in machine applications.
Two day class |
Kapa Tapa

beginner or not, let Mary show you how to sew smooth curves, peaks, and valleys, stress
free! Once you know needle turn appliqué, there will rarely be a need to use freezer
paper, starch, etc. for hand work. We begin on a practice piece, so you needn't worry
about getting it right the first time.

Hawaiian Inking
We will stencil, stamp, and ink. Inking isn't
just for Victorian and Country themes anymore. We will trace some wonderful designs
and Courtney Kaye of Giraffe Designs. Vintage hula girls, palm trees, and florals are just
a few. Use inking on your quilt tops, but more importantly, special quilts deserve
special labels. Document your work, everything you make should have a label.
